Shannonville Gas Station

Chris is sort of awesome, in a half-assed, always a little too late kind of way. He waited all day at my house for my passport, which I was totally stressed out about, he saved my life by bringing it to me at my work. This allowed me to enjoy my weekend away without worrying about whether I would have enough time to get it on Monday, before I have to leave for Boston. So anyway, he saved my life and my sanity.

Yesterday, he decided to drive to Niagara Falls with me, even though two weeks ago, he said he didn't want to go. Oh well. Now I have an extra bus ticket to Niagara Falls for another super adventure.

We left Ottawa at about 4:30 p.m. after work and after a few hours of deliberation, decided to drive to Niagara through Canada, rather than the U.S. Driving through the U.S. saves time and distance, according to my parents, but we didn't have any American money for gas and tolls and things, so we opted to take the American way on the way back. This way, we'll end up making a large circuit, and our roadtrip will be more interesting. Yay.

Later on, we almost ran out of gas. After we just missed a giant gas station, we realized we had to fill up. The next exit was Shannonville, Ontario, near the Tyendinaga native reservation. The gas station was something out of one of those cliche horror movies, similar to all the ones we stopped at on our way to Halifax during the last trip. This time, I had the foresight to take some pictures of the locals and of course, the ashtrays in the washrooms.

Chris said he thought the people in Shannonville were really nice, but I thought the lady who told me where the washrooms were was quite curt and abrupt with me. Also, the whole thing struck me as kinda creepy.

After this stop, we just kept on going all the way to my parents' house in Stevensville, a small town in between Fort Erie and Niagara Falls. My mom made us sandwiches and popcorn and then we went to bed.
