Northstar Bar for J Roddy Walston and the Business
04.05.2011
As I did every day, I checked the Couchsurfing group in Philly and found that a few people were going to the J Roddy Walston show at the North Star Bar on the west (more dangerous?) part of town.
I had scoped out the vintage clothes shops in the city and found that most of the good ones were also on this side of the city. So in the morning, I looked around and scored a five dollar dress, some shoes and a purse and a really awesome sports bra.
By the time I was done doing that, it was time for the show. So, I had a few beers by myself at the bar, talked to some random people who sat down beside me. Eventually whatshername showed up. I got the feeling she thought I was trying to cut in on this guy she was interested in. Trust me lady, I was not. So, that was kind of an awkward period of waiting for the other people to show up. She really didn't want to talk to me, but I think she felt like she had to.
Whatever.
OK, so the show was a lot of fun, I really liked the band Toy Soldiers and the others were great too. Maybe one day I'll see J Roddy again in Canada. They are real performers for sure.
On the way home, the same lady drove me back to my dorm, because she said it was not safe to walk in the streets at night. Really? OK, I took her word for it. Plus, I was too tired to argue.
