Rain rain go away

We decided to stay in Suncheon for the night and early in the morning take whatever bus was leaving at 6 a.m. I thought it was going to Tongyeon, but it was only going to Gwangju. I guess I was tired, and reading the schedule wrong and also had too much of a positive attitude. Mandy knew it last night, but I was hopeful anyway that we wouldn't have to backtrack. In the morning, we went to Gwangju. Sigh.

When we got there, our bus to Tongyeon didn't leave for a few hours. It was raining and miserable when we finally got to the ferry terminal. As I suspected, none of the good boats were leaving anyway. Only one ferry to an island about 20 minutes from the mainland was leaving in about an hour. So we took that one.

The city of Tongyeong is really pretty and tropical, as are the islands southwards. They have a lot more vegetation than the other rocky islands that I've been to so far, and the blossoms on the trees are further along.

When we got there, there was absolutely nothing around. A bus took off before we even figured out where it was going, so we walked down the empty road until we came to a small pension (minbak).

It was all really confusing. I didn't feel like trying to communicate. All I wanted was a room and a map of the island, but this lady kept jabbering on. Good thing that Mandy was so patient with the crazy lady, who eventually managed to tell us some important information about the ferry, and also that there were no stores, saunas or restaurants nearby. I think it was probably only because of Mandy that we actually got any dinner or breakfast the next day. (Rice and kimchi and spam/jelly/peanut better sandwich)

For the rest of the night, we just lounged around. I finished the book I bought, drank some "maple rice wine" and half watched like, three hours of Law & Order, then went to bed.
