I saw all the things
12.09.2013
I have three day weekends every week and I'm really excited about that. However, my passport is currently being scrutinized by the police department, so I can't travel anywhere until I get it back.
You all know that I can't stay in one place for long, so my Friday consisted of me riding my bike around and seeing the sights.
My first stop was supposed to be the Hunan provincial museum, which is huge and has lots of old things in it. I found out they are doing renovations and it will be closed until 2015. So, my second choice was the Changsha city museum, which happened to have a British art exhibit, and it was actually really good.
I took my bike to the next stop, Mao's teachers' college. It was also under renovations. Kids all around were dressed in fatigues, because they were doing military training instead of starting school. Everyone from grade 7 up does this, apparently.
There is a nice mountain park across the river, so I biked over and visited the Yuelu academy, a 1500 year old university. It's still there, but now it's called Hunan University and it's bigger and located at the bottom of the hill. I meandered around, pretending that I was a 5th century scholar in ancient China. What would that have been like? Probably smelly.
After that, I hiked up the rest of the mountain and had a mango popsicle for my reward. The haze was bad today and it was really hot, so the mango popsicle was extra delicious and there weren't any really nice views at the top. I tried to get some nice photos, but it didn't really work out.
Friday night is Diner's Club night, so after going home and showering, we had our second meeting. We had six people already, so I think that's a good sign for the upcoming weeks!
