I saw the MOTH!
21.08.2013
Tess and I lounged around at her house until late, but we managed to get our butts to the Ceres environmental park. It's kind of a ramshackle community built by hippies. The day we were there, a bizarre parade of children beating drums and dressed in some sort of Himilayan garb passed by. There was a lot of chickens and plots of land people had been tending to grow their own food. Then, we went to an Indian restaurant that Tess said had the best baklava in the city. That was our lunch. Christian wanted to buy some seeds and so we went back to the environmental park. He scooped some up and then we went back home, where I packed up and walked to the train station in the rain with Tess. Rachel's boyfriend, Erin was cooking me a kangaroo dinner feast! I brought some wine and we feasted on cheese, pitas, crackers and pancetta. Then we chowed down on the perfectly cooked meal, which I hear is difficult to do. I had already bought tickets for Rachel and I to go and see the special performance of the Moth in Melbourne's town hall, so we went over there right after dinner, and enjoyed the talks, which incidentally included Tony Wheeler (founder of Lonely Planet). His performance was underwhelming, as you might expect of a natural writer.
The Moth is an awesome podcast that my publishing house friend Tricia turned me on to, at around this time last year. I have been addicted ever since. It's just people telling their stories to an audience, sometimes sad, sometimes happy, just about whatever. Usually there is a theme but it's usually loose. Anyway, I was listening to it a few weeks ago and they said they would be in Melbourne for the Melbourne Writers' Festival. And *gasp* coincidentally I was going to be there too! So, it was a no brainer, we HAD to go.
