Alcantara

Luiz didn't really want to come on the boat with me to alcantara, so I didn't wake him up when he hit snooze on the alarm. I left quietly out the door and hopped on the first bus I saw going to the ferry.
The website said the boat was leaving at 9:30 but in reality it left at 9. So I was lucky to have gotten there early. I'm pretty sure it was also overloaded.
I got a little wet because I had to sit on the deck there were no more seats.
When we got to the island, I bought some coconut cookie ball things for breakfast. Really super sweet. Then I just started visiting all the museums etc. My book told me to go down a road with a bunch of abandoned mansions. This town used to be one of the richest in Brazil, but 100 years ago the people who lived here just left their mansions to rot. The road was jungly and quite amazing, I was beginning to have one of those sublime travel moments where I feel like an explorer. Suddenly though, a police came straight for me through the tall grass and they told me to go back. There were robbers. When I told them my book said I should look at the old houses they laughed and put me in their car. I went around on patrol with them all afternoon. They even bought me lunch! We ate takeout at the depot and then they drove me back to the dock in time for the ferry.
On the way back, the wind was strong so we sailed all the way back. It was so peaceful without the motor and I briefly questioned my career choice. Maybe I should become a skipper. But after an hour or so of watching the hypnotizing water ebb and flow, I realized actually the sea is frightening and not that peaceful and I'm probably better off on land.
Just as we were docking Luiz texted me to tell me he was going out until 7. Oh crap! The tide was out so the boat just dropped us off as close as possible to the city. That meant I wasn't too far from home. I decided to walk all the way back down the beach and by the time I would get home Luiz would be there. I was about 15 minutes away and he told me he was home! Fantastic! I moseyed on over and fell right asleep, completely missing the concerts that I had planned on attending at 11 or so.
