Wandering around Sanya

I left at 5 for Sanya on Hainan island. There was only one bus a day and it wasn't too comfortable. I was already regretting coming to this place with no train station.

In the middle of the night, we had to get off the bus and take the ferry to Hainan. When they build the bridge there, it will be much beter because it really is a time consuming process. You have to go through two passport checks and a metal detector, which isn't even properly supervised. The alarm went off on me and no one even glanced up from their cell phones.

Anyway, I found a dark corner of the boat and slept there on my blanket. It's another few hours to the bottom of the island, and when we got there, I tried to take the bus to Dadonghai, where most of the hostels were. The ticket lady seemed to say I could walk there, but I quickly realized that I couldn't. I strolled down the beach with all my stuff for a few hours and still didn't know where I was. I asked some fishermen who pointed to a place at least another two hours away, so I gave up my trek, bought a coconut and hopped on a bus that would drop me off just around the corner from my hostel.

I bought some fruit for lunch and the nice fruit man showed me where to go. I was exhausted and so I took a shower and flopped down on my bottom bunk.I slept a lot of hours and went looking for wenchang chicken. I found a place that served it, but they only brought me cabbage. I ate all the cabbage, but the chicken never came. I had pointed to the picture on the menu and everything. I left extremely disappointed. The Russian waiter even spoke moderately good english, so I have no idea what happened there.

On the way bac, I picked up a beer and some creepy, tatooed, 30 year old Canadian guy abruptly stopped his pool game to sit down and talk to me. Later some girl called him and I listened to himexplain how he would never see her again for 15 minutes. I rolled my eyes, pointed to my watch and went to bed. Later I overheard him playing the "never have I" drinking game with a bunch of other douchebags at 4 a.m. Every statement revolved around something sexual as he tried to get the women to drink more and more. It makes me sad to see bad foreigners, but it's even more sad when they are your compatriots.
