Empty place!

Sault Ste. Marie was really empty and windy and cold. I got out to take a little photo walk... as I do at each stop... and when I got back, some cranky old man was yelling at me to stop taking up so much room.

Well excuse me, I didn't know the bus was going to fill up while I was out... Luckily he didn't sit beside me.

Right about now, a really really drunk guy got on the bus and started yammering on about whatever all night long.

When we got to Toronto, the bus driver found out he was smoking in the washroom. She promptly started yelling and kicked him out. Right on the side of the 401 in the middle of nowhere in Ajax or something.... We all laughed.

Gooooo bus driver!

The home of Winnie the Pooh

I learned that White River, Ontario is the place that the Winnie the Pooh stories were based on. There's no way I would have known that without taking this trip!

I bought a blankie

We stopped for a long break in a sizable town in Saskatchewan. I had no idea where I was, but I quickly found a Liquidation World just down the street from the bus depot.

After a quick peruse of the shelves, I immediately spotted the item I was in need of. A fuzzy pastel orange and green striped, four dollar blankie.

The bus gets pretty cold and all you want to do is sleep, all the time, so it's necessary to be as cozy as possible. The blankie kept me company all the way home.

Stuck here

Well, the bus driver didn't show up for work today, so we were all stuck in Grande Prairie for two or three hours.

Luckily, the bus depot was beside a giant superstore, so I bought some amazing strawberries and tried to share them with people who were waiting. I didn't get many takers.

A lady there even went to get her hair cut while we were waiting. It was something honestly, I thought about doing, and probably should have!

Anyway, our bus route was diverted because of the delay and we took a different route across the prairies than expected.

Two hour layover

I waited for a while in the Edmonton bus station. I saw a crazy guy yelling at no one and whenever someone walked by him, he'd yell at them too. He yelled at me once too.

When he got on the bus, there was a lady laying across the three back seats.

"What the fuck is this?!" he yells and then punches the bathroom door. He sits on her feet and then they argue. The lady wants him to leave, understandably, not just because he's taking up her seat, but because he's actually crazy too. The security guards come on the bus and then I volunteer to be a witness to how crazy he is. They kick him off.

A strange man who has written books on yoga and meditation sat beside me this time. We had philosophical discussions into the night.

Guy sets himself on fire

Somewhere in between here and the next stop, I'm watching that movie about the guy who gets stuck under a rock and then cuts his arm off when suddenly I smell something like the bus is going to explode. It turns out, a drunk guy tried to set himself on fire. He didn't get kicked off, because we were in the middle of nowhere and the bus driver said he'd probably die before the next car came along.

The Sign Post Forest

Way up north in Watson Lake, there is a cool attraction where all kinds of people bring signs from their hometowns and nail them to posts in the middle of nowhere.

I was super excited to drive by it and when the bus stopped just down the street, I ran over with my camera to snap a few, just before the sunset. Whhee!

No job

When I got back to Whitehorse, the salon guy decided to hire someone else.

That's fine of course, I just changed the date on my discovery pass and planned to leave for Baltimore the next day.

When I got to the bus depot, they had already lost one of my boxes. I wasn't too worried because I knew it would be somewhere in Ontario. I was actually glad that I didn't have to drag it around with me as I traveled across the country.

The bus left right on time and I was off! A little disappointed, but excited to start a new adventure, whatever that is...

At the cabin

We went to Gavin's friend's cabin. It was lovely. I was still sick.

We parked the car about a 30 minute walk from the cabin on a small road. We carried all our stuff in and walked on the lake in knee deep snow. At times the snow was hard enough to stand on, but it was still difficult because I was so sick. The other three were all fit and ready to tackle the hike. I straggled behind, sniffling and coughing like a plague-victim.

Gavin was there when we got there, making chili. We all had some and I broke out the $40 beer that I dragged all the way from Inuvik.

Probably have a job!

Today I went to an interview for a job selling shampoo to salons. It was with a really cool outdoorsy guy named Bill from Vancouver. He offered me around $20 an hour for it and for that price. I am most likely in. He said he.d let me know on Sunday if it.s a go. so I.m waiting to hear about that. After I come back from the cabin guess who will be the first one to check the voicemail...
