Darien Lake twice for Smashing Pumpkins and Beck

I managed to go to two concerts this summer at Darien Lake. It was great fun. Once by myself (Smashing Pumpkins and Noel Gallagher) and once with my mom (Beck and Cage the Elephant)

Adirondacks with Dave

I'm too lazy to write a whole story so here are the photos.

Albright-Knox

Free day at the gallery. Most of the rooms are off limits for putting in new installations. Just go on a normal day. Not worth it.

Lunch with Owen

After the pilot "restarted" the plane, because a warning light came on, we were an hour late to SF. Owen was waiting for me and we quickly ordered hamburgers and chatted about the last year. Owen lost a lot of weight with the "slow carb" diet, which sounds like a total drag to me, but I guess it works for him. He routinely eats black beans for breakfast...

I was starving and the hamburger had an avocado on it. Yum.

I got black on the plane and headed for Seoul.

Leaving SFO was kind of the worst part. In Toronto, I waited until the very last second to get on the plane, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I knew that soon they'd be announcing my name, so I forced myself to do it on my own. San Francisco was much worse. I got on the plane quickly, but as I watched the familiar mountains fade into the distance, it broke my heart. My weekly Mountain View hiking club meetings came back to me and I realized that I wouldn't set foot on this continent for another whole 365 days. Then, I thought back to all the crazy things that happened to me in the last year and how long and terrible it seemed to me. Even though there's no way that this year could be worse, I still cried so much into my Singapore Air hot towel, that a flight attendant brought me an extra one almost as soon as the seat belt sign went off.

The museum of flying stuff?

I can't remember what this place was called, but it was kind of awesome.

I kept getting in trouble for having water in a paper cup. Bah!

Civil War stuff!

Wow, I have never been to Gettysburg but we finally made it.

After many trials and tribulations, including not finding a source of veg oil, looking for some obscure filter for Ryan's van apparatus, sleeping in the back of the van when it broke down, being woken up by some angry villagers pounding on the side of the van, sleeping in the middle of a baseball field just because there were porta potties nearby...etc. etc. etc.

This is where the bus really broke down

In the middle of nowhere at a giant truck stop.

This is where the air conditioning broke down

It was so hot, and then the air conditioning broke. Here they are, herding us in the bus like lambs to slaughter.

It got even better...

The mountains got even bigger and the temperature cooled right down, in the mountains of Colorado. Sigh. I will have to go back there sometime.

Sunset in Utah

Utah was beautiful. I remember watching the sun go down over the mountains and just staring and staring out the window while listening to Cat Empire over and over.

So I had to take a picture of me with it.

Barstow Station

Man this place is a cheesy tourist's delight.

I guess in the past it was a train station. Now it's full of knick knacks and cheesy things, including a McDonald's in a passenger train car.

It's popular because it's exactly half way between Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
